Are you passionate about a certain cause? Have you been volunteering with a nonprofit or charitable organization and considering becoming more involved? This may be the right time to explore becoming a board member.

In preparation of this session, each attendee will research two nonprofit organizations to familiarize themselves with their respective missions so we can better align the impact you will make.

In this session, we will explore: What is the board's role in planning for the organization's future and why is it important for nonprofit organizations to do it? What is strategic planning and what can boards do to carry this out effectively? What is the board's role in assessing the performance of the organization? What information should be in a resource development plan? What is good governance and why does it matter? What is a board of directors? What roles do board members play in nonprofit organizations? What are some of the issues that challenge the board's ability to go its work?

Take away: Each attendee will conduct a self-assessment of their own potential involvement and performance.

Our speaker is Michelle Turman, MA, CFRE principal consultant of Catalyst Consulting Services whose mission is to facilitate nonprofit change in the areas of executive searches, governance and fundraising coaching, organizational management and strategic planning. With over twenty-two years of nonprofit experience, Michelle has been responsible for increasing the impact and best practices of nonprofit organizations she serves and has raised over $60 million for the Tampa Bay community through her professional and personal philanthropic efforts. Turman is a Key Partner and educational trainer for the Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay and at the Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership at Rollins College.

Lunch will be served!
